To increase the security of protein in Huitan Guatemala and provide sustainable income to local farmers
The town of Huitan, Quetzaltenango suffers from some of the highest rates of malnutrition in Guatemala. This project serves to curve this issue by increasing the supply of protein that is in the community through the production of eggs and chickens. As local groups of women farmers, our goal is to raise money in order to build and stock hen houses.
Nearly one in two children under five is chronically malnourished, giving Guatemala the highest rate in Latin America and the fourth highest globally.
Local farmers will have a have a new revenue source to supplement their family income and provide them with more resources.
Participants will learn entrepreneurial skills and receive financial management training.
Farmers will learn proper care techniques of animals including feeding, vaccinating and maintaining a clean living space.
